Make construction equipment emission-free with financial support
Starting March 4, 2025 at 9 a.m., the Clean and Emission-Free Construction Equipment Subsidy Scheme (SSEB) will reopen in the Netherlands. This grant helps construction companies and lessors purchase or convert emission-free equipment to make the industry more sustainable and future-proof.
For companies looking to deploy electric construction equipment or retrofit diesel machinery to electric, this is an opportunity to receive significant financial support.
What is the SSEB grant?
The SSEB is a government scheme to accelerate the construction industry’s transition to zero-emission equipment. There are three main categories within the grant:
- Purchasing zero-emission construction machinery – For companies looking to purchase new electric or hydrogen-powered machinery.
- Retrofitting existing machinery – Subsidy for converting diesel machinery to electric.
- Innovation projects – For companies that want to experiment with new techniques and conduct feasibility studies.
Budget per component:
€48 million for procurement of new zero-emission construction machinery
€7 million for retrofit (conversion to electric)
€9 million for innovative projects
€1 million for feasibility studies

Who can apply for the SSEB?
The grant is intended for construction companies and construction equipment lessors. Companies that lease or rent emission-free machines to third parties can also apply.
View the full list of eligible machinery on the RFO website.
Why is this grant important?
Construction companies face major challenges. Grid congestion, stricter regulations and high fuel prices make sustainability not only desirable, but necessary.
With electric construction equipment, companies save on operational costs, reduce CO₂ emissions and become less dependent on fossil fuels. In addition, more and more municipalities and projects are allowing only zero-emission equipment.
Important deadlines and tips for a successful application
- Application period: March 4 – October 31, 2025 (or until the budget runs out).
- Applications are processed in order of receipt – so be quick!
- Run out of budget? Applications received on exhaustion day will be drawn by lot.
- Note: Combining subsidies with the AanZET (zero-emission trucks) scheme is allowed, but receiving double subsidies is not.
- Within 12 months of approval, the grant determination must be requested (12-month extension possible).
