We’re building the Haarlem Energy HUB!

After years of preparation, we’re excited to finally have a green light to start the building process of our new head office! It will be located along De Oudeweg, one of the main access roads of Haarlem. It will offer a spectacular view as a landmark for thousands of daily commuters. But before that, a huge undertaking awaits the developer, De Ontwikkel Unie, and the Intercel project team. By the end of Q1 next year, the Haarlem Energy HUB is aimed to be ready.

Innovative building

The brand new facility will not just be another building in the industrial park Waarderpolder. Huib Kleintjens from De Ontwikkel Unie explains the sophisticated design, aimed to answer up to the high level requirements and ambitions for this project: “The façade will be clad with bamboo strips for a sophisticated natural look. At the same time we want to offer an open view into the building with large window sections. To keep the building cool during summer, we integrated canopies above the windows that stick out 1,5 meter from the façade. And to create a sustainable building, the roof of the main part will be a brown roof that offers a habitat for local plants, insects and birds.”

Driving the first pile

It was a long way from procuring the last building plot in the C-District, investigating and designing, redesigning and obtaining all necessary permits. But after years of preparation, the actual building process starts in March this year by preparing the ground for building of the first phase. If all goes well, the first pile will be driven with an official ceremony by the end of March. From that moment on it will be pushing forward in different stages to meet the targeted delivery by end of the first quarter of ’25.

Milestones

As far as Huib is concerned, working with the right partners on every level is vital to achieve the scheduled milestones: “The first phase of the project will be supported entirely by Intercel. But for the second and final phase, the funding by RVO is essential for the successful delivery of the Haarlem Energy HUB. For a project like this you need to partner with consultancies and suppliers who are able to think along. For the façade design we work with Van Ommeren Architecten in Amsterdam and for the civil construction we choose F5 Projectengroep in IJsselstein. I’m really looking forward to share that cold beer on top of the building when we have reached the highest point in the summer!”
